Diana Shipping Services S.A. is a global ship management company, wholly owned subsidiary of Diana Shipping Inc., listed in the New York Stock Exchange, that specializes in the operation of dry cargo vessels. 

Our company is seeking a Chief Accountant responsible for overseeing accounting operations, maintaining the accuracy and effectiveness of financial processes, and ensuring the timely and compliant preparation of information required for financial reporting.

The role is part of the Finance & Accounting Department and reports to the Chief Accounting Officer.

Responsibilities: 

• Lead, supervise and mentor the Accounting Team, ensuring high performance, accuracy, and continuous professional development
• Ensure the timely and accurate completion of quarterly and year-end closing activities
• Review, validate and approve journal entries related to non-routine and complex transactions
• Oversee the management, arrangement and timely settlement of the company’s financial obligations
• Oversee local statutory tax compliance, payroll processes, and related reporting obligations
• Support the preparation of financial information required for management, external auditors, and regulatory reporting
• Monitor compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and applicable regulatory requirements
• Review and authorize payments in the absence of the Chief Accounting Officer, ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policies

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Chief Accountant in a shipping company
• Experience working in an audit, compliance, and internal controls environment
• Prior experience with a reputable Audit Firm will be considered an asset
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reconciliations, and period-end closing processes
• Holder of an Accounting Class A’ License under Greek regulations
• Excellent analytical and financial review capabilities 
• Strong data validation, reconciliation and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize workloads, coordinate team activities and meet demanding deadlines
• Digital mindset with a passion for process improvement, automation, and the adoption of new technologies. Proficiency in Danaos software is required
• Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal
